100 years of Polish illustration in children's books
100 entries, 230 artists, 900 illustrations. A monumental album presenting 100 years of the history of Polish children's illustration.
An impressive book composed of richly illustrated, alphabetically arranged entries presenting a cross-sectional image of the achievements of Polish illustration from 1918 to the present day. They describe the thematic areas and themes appearing in the pictures, artistic techniques, stylistic trends, the most distinguished illustrators of children's books and the most significant publishing series. The texts have been prepared by eleven specialists dealing with the theory and practical dimension of book illustrations, design graphics and books for children. Their various specializations and areas of interest gave the book a varied, collage character. The essence of the book are illustrations - over 900 works by over 200 Polish illustrators have been gathered here. They include both recognized masters of illustration (including Bohdan Butenko, Adam Kilian, Zbigniew Rychlicki, Janusz Stanny, Jan Marcin Szancer, Franciszka Themerson) and contemporary artists of various generations (including Edgar Bąk, Jan Bajtlik, Emilia Dziubak, Monika Hanulak, Marta Ignerska, Grażka Lange, Aleksandra and Daniel Mizieliński, Marianna Oklejak, Paweł Pawlak).
